ISLAMABAD: The politico-religious party in Pakistan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) has welcomed the efforts of federal government for initiation of dialogues with Taliban, whereas, clarified that there is not any alternate of talks.
Jamiat- Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F) welcoming the Prime minister’s efforts for resumption of dialogues with Taliban has said that If government is serious about mechanism of talks, we believe any other mechanism will not have credibility and might be construed to malign the talks option just to prepare ground for an other operation
According to a statement issued on Wednesday the Spokesperson of JUI-F, Jan Achakzai, has welcomed the seriousness of Mian Nawaz Sharif to re-engage the Taliban in talks but said that individual politicians could not make it happen until and unless local conflict resolution mechanism called Jirga is involved.
If government is serious about mechanism of talks, we believe any other mechanism will not have credibility and might be construed to malign the talks option just to prepare ground for an other operation
He was reacting to the news item that Maulana Samiul Haq, Chief of JUI-S has been tasked to establish contacts with the Taliban.
Jan Achakzai said that it is neither the job of Maulana Samiulhaq nor of the JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazalur Rahman to become interlocutors. “Peace building in FATA envisages a mechanism to achieve the objective, and that mechanism is the tribal jirga to own any such process”, he added.
He said that the the Jirga drawing elites,( Maliks etc) religious scholars, political reps, minorities etc, could mediate between the two sides.
As fas as which Jirga is concerned, the JUI-F stand is very clear:
“We have already worked out a forum and brought in to Islamabad in March 2013 to get support of national leadership of 50 plus parties, both in govt and opposition, who pledged to continue supporting the Jirga’s efforts after elections”.
If government is serious about mechanism of talks, we believe any other mechanism will not have credibility and might be construed to malign the talks option just to prepare ground for an other operation.
Mr Achakzai recalled that past agreements were failed due to flawed mechanism: the Shaki agreement was signed on bilateral basis by the 2 disputant parties —a Commander representing the security forces’ side put garlands in the neck of Naek Muhamad. Also the Swat agreement was inked by political interlocutors so in both case there were trust deficits and no third party was involved as mechanism/forum. As a result both sides blamed each other for who broke first the agreement.
However, Mr Achakzai said that if Maulana Samiul Haq or any other individual can bring peace, JUI-F will wish him good luck.
