Islamabad: Chief of Army Staff and Defence Minsiter Khuwaja Asif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ahead of an important hearing of missing person case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan here on Tuesday (today).
According to sources, the troika discussed the missing person case in which chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had give a deadline to produce missing persons.
The defense minister given the briefing regarding the case and the development had been made. It was also decided in a meeting that the defence minister would present an official report before the court during the hearing.
On Monday, the Chief Justice directed the defence minister Khawaja Asif to register an FIR of the two persons who went missing and later died in agency’s custody after consulting the head of Malakand detention centre.
The CJP said that if he failed to register the case, then it would hint towards serious atrocities in the system. He said that the judges could not chase any accused nor they have weapons in their hands, it is his duty to ensure the implementation of orders.
Earlier, Khawaja Asif had pleaded the court for three days time as he had recently taken charge as defence minister. Replying to this, the Chief Justice refused to give even a day due to the gravity of the situation. He continued saying that missing persons are dying now and the government is silent over the issue.
Khawaja Asif said the government is legislating over the issue of missing persons and will present a bill in the National Assembly in few days. On this, the CJP responded that first recover the 33 missing persons and then the government can continue with the legislation. The Chief Justice also ordered to conduct the autopsy of the dead missing persons.
The Chief Justice remarked that the Superintendent of Malakand Internment Centre, Ataullah, had submitted a statement before the Peshawar High Court two years ago that the army had handed over 35 persons to him and later took them away. The CJP ordered for the arrest and registration of cases against those responsible for the disappearances.
