LAHORE: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Liaqat Baloch said on Wednesday that adherence to the constitution was imperative for all the institutions including the armed forces as there was no martial law in the country at present.
He said if the armed forces were hurt by any act of the Jamaat-e-Islami, they should have taken up the matter with the Defense Ministry or directly contacted the JI, and there was no need for issuing a press release.
He was addressing the JI central workshop at party headquarters, Mansoora on Wednesday,
Liaqat Baloch said, the Jamaat-e-Islami had been fighting shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces for the country’s defense and independence and thousand of its workers had offered their blood in Bangladesh, Kashmir and Afghanistan. However, he said, confusion was being created by the vested interests for ulterior motives.
The JI Secretary General said that the armed forces officers and Jawans who had offered their lives for the defense of the country were the heroes of the nation. He said the Jamaat letter to the Prime Minister on the issue has been delivered.
Liaqat Baloch said, after the APC, the unanimous demand of the nation had been to go ahead with talks with the Taliban besides end to the NATO supplies and drone attacks. However, these issues had been dragged into unnecessary controversy.
