LAHORE: Drone attacks by the US are being heavily criticised by various organisations. Now its own investigative agency “PEW” also starts to criticise the attacks in Pakistan terming them as brutal assault.
The agency stated that the negative reaction over the drone attacks is not only in Pakistan but also amongst the friends of the United States. In its report, the agency stated 98% of Pakistanis term drone as harmful instrument. Besides that 90% people in Greece, 89% in Egypt, 85% in Jordan, 81% in Turkey and Spain, 76% in Brazil, 75% in Japan and 73% in Mexico think of the same.
Even the people inside United States are against the drone strikes in Pakistan and term it as a step against humanity. The Congress has also challenged the credibility of the strikes violating territorial divisions. President Obama also promises to review drone attacks on temporary basis while on the other hand, PM Nawaz Sharif also asked for the details while leaving for US.
According to the details, US is somehow successful in achieving what it wanted to with the drone strikes and thus it stresses on its continuation. The policy of drones in Pakistan was introduced in the dictatorial regime of then Prime Minister and Army Cheif General Pervez Musharraf.
Most of the attacks were carried out in the tenure of then US President George W. Bush with a total of 45. On the other hand, the first year of Obama as US President lead to 53 drone attacks on Pakistani soil.
Today these attacks have amounted to 330 which have killed 250 terrorists whereas 2524 innocent people have been targeted. More or less 646 women and children have been killed in the drone attacks most of them having no links whatsoever with the terrorists.
Amnesty International earlier challenged the credibility of the attacks violating territorial laws. It also stated that US may be under the redline of War crimes.
