ISLAMABAD: Khaqan Murtaza, the Managing Director (MD) Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan, said that number of utility stores will be increased by opening 1000 new branches in the country, Radio Pakistan reported.
During an interview Murtaza unveiled the project of new utility stores’ chain across Pakistan for confirming provision of essential commodities to consumers at governmental controlled rates.
He termed the project as PC-1 envisaging expansion of utility outlets’ network which has been forwarded to the concerned quarters for approval.
The MD detailed that 6017 outlets which also includes franchise stores are currently operational in different parts of Pakistan while the federal government is planning for establishment of utility stores in each Union Council (UC).
While unveiling the statistics about area coverage of servicing, Murtaza said that we have presence in 68 per cent union councils in Punjab‚ Sindh 76 per cent‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KPK) 83 per cent‚ Balochistan 70 per cent‚ Azad Kashmir 75 per cent‚ Gilgit Baltistan 80 per cent and in Islamabad 86 per cent.
MD utility stores corporation added the local people are preferred to be recruited for administrating the outlets.
He affirmed the successful experiencing of establishing mega stores in big cities including Karachi‚ Lahore and Islamabad.
He said that after gaining positives experiences from mega stores in larger cities, we have set up mini markets in some cities to meet the demands of customers.
