ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday observed that the federal and the provincial governments have violated Article 140 of the Constitution by avoiding local bodies election in the country.
A three judges bench of the apex court headed by Chief justice of Pakistan, Iftekhar Muhammad Chuardhy heard the case pertaining to the local bodies election.
Supreme Court ordered federal and provincial governments to submit the reports regarding local bodies election on 26th September.
Chief justice remarked that government violated the law and constitution not holding the local bodies election in the country.
Court also observed that there was no sign of local body’s elections in KPK in next 2 to 3 years. Court said governments must announce the local body’s election date.
