KARACHI: The family of slain Shahzeb Khan, a youngster from Pakistan’s largest city Karachi has denied media reports of striking a settlement deal worth Rs200 million with the his murderers.
Earlier in the day, Shahzeb Khan’s heirs dropped the murder charges against Shahrukh Jatoi and three other defendants. Afterwards, it was reported by the media that an out-of-court settlement worth Rs200-350 million that was struck in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led to Shahzeb family’s decision of letting the murderers off the hook.
Pakistan’s private TV Channel Geo News was also reported that Shahzeb’s family members had also been issued residency visas for Australia and were expected to depart for the country soon.
In the case, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi had sentenced the prime suspects namely Shahrukh Jatoi and Siraj Talpur to death, while two other accomplices were awarded life terms.
Shahzeb’s father Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aurangzeb Khan, mother, and two sisters submitted separate affidavits in the SHC on July 17 formally pardoning the killers in the name of Allah.
Shahzeb’s case was highlighted by the social media in Pakistan. On the other hand, legal experts claim that even though case has been settled outside, but still final decision to be given by the court.
