KARACHI: The prominent leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and renowned lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan’s senate post feared to be suspended by the Supreme Court (SC) over wrong recitation of the Quranic verses.
Aitzaz Ahsan faced a petition filed by a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Dr Abid Rauf Orakzai, declaring him ineligible for the post of senator due to flop recitation of the Holy Quran’s verses, local media reported.
The apex court was requested to inform the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for incompetency of the PPP belonged senator, Aitzaz Ahsan, in accordance to the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Orakzai requested the SC to order Ahsan for recitation of first and second Kalmas, the verses of the Holy Quran termed as the fundamentals of Islam, as well as offering of Salah, the practice of formal worship in Islam.
The petitioner also include the Pakistan’s federal government, Chief Election Commissioner Justice Tassaduq Jilani in the request.
