KARACHI: Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s question from top security official pertaining weapons containers arrival in Karachi remained unanswered by the higher authorities.
CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the metropolis’ law and order case in Karachi Registry of Supreme Court on Friday while chief secretary Sindh, Director General (DG) Rangers and Inspector General (IG) Police were also present before the court.
“From where the weapons containers’ reached in the city, but we don’t get any answer.”, CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said.
While questioning with Chief Secretary of Sindh, CJ said, “CCTV cameras has been installed in Karachi or not?”, the chief secretary answered, “1600 CCTV cameras are being installed in Karachi.”
IG Police told the court that electronic surveillance machines are present in the city but there is not trained staff present to operate them.
CJ expressed outraged over the authorities including governmental and security agencies by saying that extortion money is being taken through cheques while black money present is present behind money laundering.
Custom Collector revealed that Hundi amount is being transferred from Karachi.
However, the SC formed a commission for weapons recovery from ships and launches present on the port as well as ordered to present report in 7 days.
Moreover, the Supreme ordered the authorities to provide detailed report over peace situation of the city in next hearing.
The court adjourned the case till September 18.
