Islamabad: Pakistan and Thailand have decided to strengthen their trade ties thus boosting bilateral relations. Over the next five years, both countries aim to double their trade volume by $2 billion.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, along with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif aimed to collaborate in the field of tourism, trade, infrastructure development, culture, defence, science and technology and education. Nawaz Sharif expressed his views that the two countries will be mutually benefitted with expanding their bilateral relations with one another.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan said, “We are satisfied with the progress made in recent years in critical areas of economic and defence”. He said that businessmen from Thailand have been invited to Pakistan to contribute to the arenas of hospitality, infrastructure development‚ energy‚ water and power‚ food processing‚ packaging‚ gems and jewellery and tourism.
He further added, “Both sides have agreed to establish joint trade committee and Joint Business council. The inaugural session of the joint trade committee is being held tomorrow to identify areas of further collaboration”.
To provide support to the investment and facilitation of trade greater connectivity is an important aspect, he added. “To this end‚ we believe that Pakistan and Thailand may utilise their diverse geo-strategic location and promote people to people contacts. He is thankful to Thailand for its constant support to Pakistan for Enhanced Partnership with ASEAN”.
Shinawatra endorsed her country’s support to its oldest friend Pakistan that span over six decades of diplomatic relations. She further emphasised upon people to people contacts between the two countries must be further enhanced through regional cooperation.
She further hoped that the challanges faced by Pakistan can be overcome provided Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and international borders are ready to cooperate with the country.
