KARACHI: Reacting hard over attitude of opposition in Sindh Assembly, Information Minister Sharjeel Memon says even minorities have to pay ‘Fitra (Charity)’ in Karachi.
“The law and order situation in Karachi has not reached to this peak overnight. From 2002 to 2007, the scenario is different. Similar is the case between 2008 and 2012,” the minister said following a boycott from Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
MQM members of the provincial assembly walked out of the hall after an exchange of harsh words between acting speaker Shehla Raza and MQM parliamentary leader Faisal Sabzwari. The latter one was insisting to speak for a longer duration against law and order situation in port city, a thing which was vehemently opposed by the speaker.
The exchange of harsh words later on resulted in walk out from MQM members.
Giving a strong reaction over MQM’s response, Sharjeel Memon said that every trader of the city had to pay extortion.
“It’s sad to note that precious human lives used to be taken to get animal hide on Eid ul Azha,” he further said.
“The government alone couldn’t do anything as everyone’s role is required to establish peace in the city.”
After joining the session, opposition leader Syed Sardar Ahmed stressed upon adopting a comprehensive counter terrorism policy at the provincial level.
