ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered on Friday to withdraw additional General Sales Tax (GST) on petroleum products and observed that government is not authorised to impose additional sales tax.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry chaired three-member bench has announced today the short decision of the additional GST imposition case.
SCP declared the 1931’s act unlawful which is conflicted with article 77 of the constitution, so the government is not authorised to impose such taxes without approval. Moreover, the apex court ordered Pakistani government to submit back the additional one percent GST tax implemented on June 13.
The apex court ordered Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority to take back its notification for additional 9% GST on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and to release new notification.
Earlier, SCP took suo moto notice when petroleum products’ prices were significantly increased after the imposition of additional GST.
Moreover, SC also ordered to take rapid action against inflation and Hoarders while the detailed decision will be announced afterwards.
