PESHAWAR: Drone attacks must be halted as these are against the international law and government should take measures to ensure the same.
This was the verdict of Peshawar High Court while hearing the case relating to the CIA-sponsored US air attacks, here on Thursday.
Chief Justice of the court, Justice Dost Muhammad said that Pakistan should approach international war crimes tribunal and table a resolution in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to address the issue.
He observed that the assaults denied the spirit of the UN charter and defy global law.
If its gets vetoed…..
The court also said that if the resolution gets vetoed in the UN General Assembly, end relations and parts ways with the US.
It also directed seeking compensation for the losses US has caused to the nation, adding security forces reserve the right to shoot the planes down.
Death statistics
A report says Pakistan government estimates that at least 400 civilians have so far been killed in the attacks by the ally, while a US senator had said the number of total deaths due to the strikes in Pakistan and Yemen total to around 4,700.
Pakistan had ban denying it gave the CIA permission to run the covert operation, but only recently, former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf had admitted a secret deal to consent the same.
