PESHAWAR: Former member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Khalifa Abdul Qayyum has been allowed to contest in forthcoming general elections.
The verdict was Wednesday issued by the election tribunal, allowing the aforementioned to compete in elections from NA 24 and PK 64 constituencies of Dera Ismael Khan.
Earlier, a sessions court had awarded imprisonment of three years and rupees 5,000 fine to the ex MPA.
It is pertinent to mention here that PPP’s candidate Jamshed Dasti was also allowed to contest elections after his imprisonment in fake degree case was annulled.
In another case, former president Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf was exited from the election race after his plea to compete in polls were rejected in multiple charges.
Deadline today
The deadline for the Election Commission of Pakistan to dispense cases pertaining to nomination papers expires today.
