Boston: At least three people have been killed and 30 others injured after two explosions went off at the finish line of a Marathon race in Boston, capital of the U.S. state of Massachusetts.
About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.
Meanwhile, Police reported at least one explosion and witnesses said there were two, which hit as spectators were cheering on runners finishing the race.
“There was an explosion. Police, fire and EMS (emergency medical services) are on the scene, we have no indication of how many people are injured,” a spokeswoman for the Boston Police Department said.
Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners. Police wove through competitors as they ran back toward the course.
