ISLAMABAD: The election tribunal maintained the decision of the tribunal to declare former military ruler Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf, here on Tuesday (today).
The tribunal stayed stance of the returning officer that the former president is not eligible to contest polls from NA 48 constituency.
The decision was given on the grounds of taking ‘illegal actions during the imposition of emergency on November 3’.
Musharraf’s counsel contended that imposing emergency was not a personal measure taken by his client. He also said chairman APML is the only person who has declared assets worth 650 million rupees.
However, the counsel supporting the opposite stance said Musharraf kept the judges in illegal detention and violated his oath as the army chief of the country.
Appeal against Nawaz Sharif
Meanwhile, an appeal was filed against the former Prime Minister and chairman PML-N, Nawaz Sharif to bar him from contesting the polls.
The petitioner said that the politician should be considered ineligible over his involvement in the Asghar Khan case and on being an alleged tax defaulter.
