Lahore: The Lahore High Court has banned returning officers of Punjab from asking unnecessary questions from the candidates willing to take part in upcoming elections.
The court on Friday night remarked that the RO’s could only ask questions relating to the nominees’ details submitted to the officer.
“No returning officer can ask questions regarding the private life of the candidate during the scrutiny process.”
“The returning officers can only inquire about the details of (National Accountability Bureau (NAB), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and NADRA,” Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked.
The court also barred media from taking cameras to the returning officers’ room saying that it was damaging the judiciary’s image.
