Peshawar: Awami National Party’s (ANP) former Member of Provincial Assembly Syed Aqil Shah has been sent to jail for one year over possessing fake degree.
Aqil Shah, the former provincial minister of sports, has also been ordered to pay Rs3,000 penalty.
District and Session Judge Peshawar Shabbir Khan heard the fake degree case against the former minister and declared him guilty.
Pakistan courts are quite active for last couple of days over the fake degrees and have disqualified and sent several politicians behind the bars.
The country’s apex court had issued the orders to the lower courts to conclude all the fake degrees case by April 4.
Earlier, a judge in Pakpattan declared Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PM-N) former Member of National Assembly Salman Mohsin Gilani an absconder in fake degree case.
