Islamabad: 33 Pakistani students got DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholarships to continue their Master’s and research courses at German universities in upcoming months.
A function was organised in German Embassy Islamabad where German Ambassador Dr. Cyrill Nunn bid farewell to new scholarships holders.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC, Ursula Saarbeck, Director DAAD Office Islamabad and several Alumni members was also present in the event.
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) has been actively supporting in academics between Pakistan and Germany for more than half a century.
All scholarship holders are fully funded by the German government in which 12 students will go for PhD while one will complete PhD under “Conflict Studies and Management Programme”.
12 graduates will do Master’s degree within the programme “Pub Policy / Good Governance” while another 8 students will do their Master’s degree under programme of “Development related Postgraduate Courses”.
All 33 scholars will participate in a German language course in Germany. Though most scholars will do their studies in English but the knowledge of the local language is essential for the communication in everyday life.
The German Federal Foreign Office is now providing extra funding after huge incremental figure of scholarships applications from Pakistani students after Higher Education Commission HEC launched programme for foreign scholarship in 2004.
Previously, around 400 Pakistani students went to Germany in which 200 have already returned with their PhD or Master’s degrees.
