ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan to select a caretaker prime minister from the list of four nominees is underway in Islamabad.
Task of selecting the caretaker prime minister was assigned to the Election Commission after Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar and later an eight-member parliamentary committee failed in reaching a consensus.
Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim is chairing the meeting while four other members of the ECP including Justice (retd) Riaz Kiyani and Justice (retd) Fazlur Rehman, Justice (retd) Shahzad Akbar, and Justice (retd) Roshan Isani are also present in the meeting.
Justice Riaz Kiani, ECP member from Punjab, said on Saturday that the electoral body would decide the issue till Sunday afternoon.
The commission would select the caretaker prime minister after reviewing the four names, discussed in the parliamentary committee.
