London: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President is emerging as the new ruler of Pakistan especially in the eyes of Britain as he was given a special protocol during his private trip to London.
According to sources, on March 13, Nawaz Sharif along with his wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, had arrived London on a private trip from Geneva. He was unexpectedly welcomed at the airport by Pakistani High Commissioner in London, Wajid Shamsul Hassan.
On contacting Pakistani High Commission in London over the issue, Wajid Shamsul Hassan confirmed the report but said that Sharif was given welcome as an ex-prime minister and the leader of key political party of the country.
On March 14, British Foreign Secretary William Hague called on Nawaz Sharif and the meeting continued for almost an hour.
The sources said that the PML-N leader assured Britain that he would continue to support United Kingdom, if he would form the next government of the country.
Sharif further assured one of key power of the world that he would take stern action against the outlawed militant outfits including the sectarian parties, which have strong presence in the southern Punjab and PML-N is trying to make alliance with them in the next elections.
The spokesman for British Foreign Ministry has confirmed the meeting but refused to disclose the minutes of the meeting.
The way Nawaz Sharif was welcomed at the British airport by the Pakistani ambassador and William Hague’s request for the meeting with Nawaz Sharif have raised doubts that the Britain wanted to take assurances from the future leader of the government in Pakistan over the stakes of Britain in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, it is to be mentioned here that recent polls from different organizations have showed increase in the popularity of PML-N and with elections after two months in the country it seems that the PMLN is favourite for making the next government in the country.
