KARACHI: Police submitted their detailed report in the Supreme Court of Pakistan during the hearing of Karachi unrest suo motu case here in the Karachi registry of the apex court on Thursday.
Three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry comprises Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan is hearing the case at the apex court’s Karachi Registry.
According to the private news television, police in their report said that they had carried out 45435 raids since October 6, 2011 in the city and arrested 208 target killers and 258 extortionists.
The police also attached the list of political workers involved in the criminal activities in the metropolis. They told the apex court that 81 workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), 38 of Sunni Tehreek, 13 of Awami National Party (ANP), 4 workers of Mohajir Qaumi Movement and 6 workers of banned outfit People’s Aman Committee were among the target killers who had been arrested.
Surprisingly, the police said that 9 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were also involved in the target killing incident in the city.
Police, including Lyari gang war, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Jhanvi and Jandullah, in the list of political parties further said that 27 workers the TTP, 17 of Lyari gang war and 2 of LeJ are among the arrested target killers.
Around 351 cases of illegal weapons and dakoities were registered against 224 political activists during the period, the report said. “268 people were arrested in 238 cases of murder, extortion and 152 people’s challans were produced.”
Moreover, the report said that 20428 accused were arrested in 45535 raids during the period, adding that the challans of 140 were produced in the court.
Police told the court that there was no no-go area existed in the city.
