Islamabad: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari will visit Iran on Monday to perform ground-breaking of gas pipeline project along with heads of other states, the country’s foreign office said.
Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan said at the weekly news briefing that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources is working out details.
He said that because the project is in Pakistan’s best interest, the country is committed to go ahead with it.
Ahmad said that Pakistan’s economic situation compelled the incumbent government to go for the project despite reservations from the United States and other countries.
To a question he said discussions are also going on with Iran about setting up of an oil refinery at Gwadar.
