Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday declared null and void the military court of appeal’s December 2005 verdict pertaining to conversion of the sentences into death penalty of two accused in former President General Pervez Musharraf attack case.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had reserved the verdict in the case on February 28.
The apex court cancelled the military court of appeals verdict pertaining to the conversion of sentences into death of two accused of Musharraf attack case- Rana Muhammad Naveed and Aamir Sohail.
However, the court has maintained Rana Naveed’s life imprisonment and Aamir Sohial’s 20-year incarceration sentences.
The military court, on July 21, 2005, had awarded sentence to the two accused of the case. Naveed was awarded life imprisonment, whereas Sohial was awarded 20-year incarceration.
However, on December 8, 2005, the court of appeal had converted the sentences into death penalty.
