Islamabad: Pakistani military has refuted a report published in The New York Times which, citing unnamed US officials, said that two drone strikes in the Pakistan’s tribal belt were not carried out by the CIA, alleging that Pakistani army might have been behind the attacks.
Commenting on the news report published on March 4, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesman Asim Saleem Bajwa said that such an accusation is distortion of facts and seems to be aimed at diluting Pakistan’s stance on drone strikes.
He denied Pakistan’s security forces having carried out any operation, including air strikes, in the area on dates mentioned in the Times report.
