Karachi: Police officials in Karachi said the blast targeting a Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) substation in the city was an improvised explosive device (IED).
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Shahid Hayat said the blast contained 200 kilograms of explosives material and was meant to destroy SSGC substation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Clifton Nasir Aftab said ball bearings were also used in the blast.
The blast was powerful enough to shake buildings and windows of the nearby buildings, but nobody was killed.
Nearby roads of the blast site were badly jammed after the incident.
The SSGC earlier said that the walls of the sub-station were damaged in the attack.
Earlier reports said the blast caused after a pipeline burst.
