Lahore: Canadian-Pakistani cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri, who led a protest march last month in Pakistan’s federal capital, announced on Sunday that the next phase of his march would start soon, urging people to be ready to get out of their homes.
Addressing a meeting of Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) Central Executive Committee, he insisted that he did not want elections to be delayed in the country, however, he could not see “corrupt” politicians to get re-elected through what he called a fake election process.
Qadri said the next march would be countrywide and tens of thousands of people would come out of their homes to get rid of the current “corrupt” politicians.
He further said that his party was going to conduct a survey at the Union Council level to know whether people want to see his party contesting the upcoming general election.
Minhajul Quran International chief Qadri claimed he saved the derailment of democracy, saying that a martial law would have been imposed in the country had he not struck a deal with the government at the end of the Islamabad long march.
