Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday advised President Asif Ali Zardari to refrain from accepting the resignation of National Accountability Chairman (NAB) Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari.
According to sources, the NAB chairman has sent his resignation to the president house and a high level meeting of PPP leadership under the chair of the president is mulling over to either accept his resignation or postpone it for the time being.
During his telephonic conversation, the PML-Q chief said that the changing of the NAB chairman at the moment when elections are coming closer would be spoiled by the politics of different parties.
Shujaat further said that the chairman was under pressure amid high profile investigations and to avoid any mishap with elections nearing, the chairman should himself withdraw his resignation.
Earlier on Monday morning, Fasih Bokhari in a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari stated that NAB officers were under pressure from the Supreme Court has they were not being given enough time to investigate cases and to implement the court’s orders.
Bokhari’s letter that came to fore over a week after one of NAB’s investigators in the rental power projects case allegedly committed suicide also voiced his reservations over the role of the Supreme Court.
