Islamabad: Political party of Canadian-Pakistani cleric Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri may take part in upcoming general election in Pakistan, a report said.
Qadri reached a deal with Pakistan’s ruling coalition on Thursday that will give his party some say over the formation of a caretaker government ahead of elections this spring.
The cleric has threatened to take his supporters to roads again if the government does not abide by an agreement that eased a political crisis, an aide said on Friday, Reuters reported.
“We will ensure implementation of the agreement with full letter and spirit,” Qazir Faizul Islam, secretary of information for Qadri’s charity, told Reuters.
“If the government tries to deviate, we will force them to follow through the power of the people and media.”
With Qadri’s long march ended, confusion still prevails what is his agenda. While some say Pakistan’s powerful military is behind the cleric, many believe Qadri is working on a “foreign” agenda.
An agreement between Qadri and government was lambasted by notable Pakistani journalists, including Talat Hussain, Hamid Mir, Nusrat Javed, Mushtaq Minhas and Faisal Quraishi.
