Karachi: A petition filed in the Karachi registry of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought to impose ban on the important coalition party of the government at the federal and provincial level, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Barrister Zafarullah asked to ban the political party over the remarks of its chief, Altaf Hussain’s about ‘Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’ in his speech on Thursday.
The petitioner held the stance that in the light of the constitution of Pakistan, no comments can be placed against the father of the nation.
He furthered that Quaid-e-Azam did not hold dual nationality.
Barrister Zafarullah asked the court to bar Tahir-ul-Qadri from taking part in political activities as his organization, ‘Tehrik-e-Minhaj-ul-Quran’, is only an NGO.
He also said that Dr Tahir should be asked about the funds to organizing the forthcoming public meeting on January 14.
It maybe mentioned here that the MQM chief had claimed in his speech on Thursday that the founder of the nation also held dual nationality and had taken oath of loyalty with the British.
