Tehran: Pakistan’s Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Asim Hussain, Sunday called on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and discussed Pak-Iran gas pipeline.
According to Iran’s state run TV, the minister held discussions with Ahmadinejad with special focus on Pak-Iran gas pipeline.
The development came after the recent visit of Iranian president to Pakistan during Developing-8 conference in Islamabad.
Earlier, Asim, who is on a two-day visit to Iran met Foreign Minister, Dr Ali Akbar Salehi, Iranian Petroleum Minister, Rostam Ghasemi, and Advisor to the President and Head of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Cooperation (CITC), Hamid R. Amirinia. and discussed matters of mutual interest.
It is to be mentioned here that Tehran had announced it plans to invest $250 million in the Pakistani side of a gas pipeline project which will export Iran’s gas to Pakistan.
Pakistan has shown reluctance over the gas pipeline due to the immense pressure from United States, who did not want Pakistan to benefit Iran in the form of the pipeline.
United States has imposed strict financial bans on Iran due to its nuclear program, which US thinks would endanger the security of the region.
