Karachi: A shutter down strike, called by Sindhi nationalist parties, is being observed in several cities of Sindh province against the new Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance-2012 (SPLGO-12).
The nationalist parties have strongly condemned the dual system in the province and announced to stage protests against the ‘division of province’.
A complete strike is being observed in Dadu, Khairpur, Jamshoro, Mirpur Khas and several other cities. The markets are closed and public transport is thin in the cities.
In Karachi, the situation in most of the areas is normal but few firing incidents and protests also reported. Police sources said that unidentified men had torched three public buses in university road and Gulshan Chowrangi areas.
Under the SPLGO, five major cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas had been given status of Metropolitan Corporations while there would be district governments in the remaining districts of the province.
