Washington: The United States (US) President Barack Obama on Friday telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi and discussed current situation in the region.
In a statement issued from White House, the US President reassured Benjamin Netanyahu of US support in tackling the Hamas threat in the Gaza strip.
The two also discussed options for “de-escalating” the situation in Israel and Gaza, the White House said.
“The prime minister expressed his deep appreciation to the president and the American people for the United States’ investment in the Iron Dome rocket and mortar defense system, which has effectively defeated hundreds of incoming rockets from Gaza,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama also contacted Mohammad Mursi and appreciated his efforts in calming the situation in both Gaza and Israel.
The two leaders also agreed to remain in touch with each other on the issue.
It is to be mentioned here that at least 29 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli airstrikes while on the other hand, at least three people have been killed in rockets fired by Hamas from Gaza strips.
