Islamabad: The National Judicial Policy-making Commission (NJPMC) has given Election Commission of Pakistan its consent to appoint judicial officers as district returning officers (ROs) and make them a part of the election process.
The NJPMC, however, has allowed so with the condition that the officers will not be working under the organizational officers of the polling stations. The commission has issued orders to give legal shape to the new development.
Earlier, the ECP had requested to avail services of the officers at the polling stations in the upcoming elections.
The meeting was attended by the secretaries of ECP and Law and Justice Commission while chief justices of all five high courts and Federal Shariah Court were also present on the occasion.
