Islamabad: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik Thursday in an unexpected announcement said that motorcycle riding would be banned in two metropolitans of Pakistan, Karachi and Quetta, on Friday (today).
Giving a press briefing to media, Malik said that the decision was taken after credible intelligence information revealed that the miscreants were planning to use motor cycles in their terror activities.
“The motorcycle ban will be enforced from 6 am to 7 pm,” he said adding that shops in Karachi would also remain open from 10 am to 5 pm in the two cities.
The minister further announced that no one was exempted from the motorcycle ban as in the case of pillion riding where journalists, above 60 age people and law enforcement personnel were enjoying exemption from pillion riding.
It is to be mentioned here that according to excise sources, almost 1.7 million motorcycles were registered in Karachi while o.15 million were registered in Quetta.
Malik further said that the authorities were also considering suspending mobile services in the two terror-hit cities but the decision would be announced tomorrow.
The Malik further said that a third force was involved in deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
Meanwhile, CNG stations across Sindh would also remain closed on Friday.
