Karachi: Chaos spread in Karachi’s Water Pump area after two groups opened fire on each other, followed by torching of three vehicles, police and rescue sources said.
Infuriated people torched three vehicles including two buses near Yousuf Plaza after which heavy contingents of police and Rangers arrived at the scene to take the situation in control while shops and markets surrounding the area started to close.
The sources said that the incident happened when a procession carrying dead bodies of three people, traveling towards Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard, came in clash with a rally of of Ahl-e-Sunnat which was on its way to Nishter Park.
Firing between the two groups spread chaos and harassment among the people there. Fortunately, no casualty was reported in the incident while the injured were shifted to various hospitals.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Interior Minister, Rehman Malik has said that targeted action is being carried out against terrorist as well as patrolling of security forces is being increased to overcome the former’s activities. He informed that a code of conduct was being evolved in liaison with Ulema to ensure peaceful environment on the occasion of Muharram-ul-Haram.
