Islamabad: A Pakistani delegation comprising of officials of Higher Education Commission Pakistan and representatives of top universities attended two weeks training course at United States of America.
The universities include Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore, KPK University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad and NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi .
This training course was conducted with the technical support of USA Commercial Law Development Program , USA States Department of Commerce and USAID.
During the course, the participants were apprised about different legal aspects of research commercialization for promotion of entrepreneurship. The participants also visited leading US universities including Princeton University, Oklahoma State University and Carnegie Mellon University which are playing a major role in promotion of entrepreneurship. The Pakistani delegation studied technology transfer mechanism.
The delegate termed the visit quite useful, informative and vowed to promote entrepreneurial culture at Pakistani universities through helping and guiding educated youth in establishing new technology companies and business avenues.
They were also of the view that the entrepreneurial activities can reduce the poverty by creating new jobs and can also improve exports by value addition and innovation of new products to the market.
With the reduction of poverty on one hand the people of Pakistan would enjoy good standard of living and on the other hand it would also help in enhancing exports, which will bring the surplus balance of payment and foreign exchange to the country, they hoped.
Under the faciliation of HEC, six technology/ business incubation centers TIC have been established at Agriculture University Faisalabad, KPK University of Enigineering and Techonolgy Peshawar, COMSATS Institue of Inforamtion Techonogy Islamabad, ,University of Vetrniary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Institute of Business Administration Sukkar and recently established BIC at Quaid-e-Azam University. The main aim of estgablishedment of these innovative and commerical centres is to commercialize new techniques and encourage the university graduates to create job for strengthening local industry. Hence centere are providing an environment that attracts and nurtures technology based start-up companies, and transforms them into commercially viable enterprises. TIC provides a platform for the university faculty/students, having commercially viable R&D output to establish their own start-up companies in order to commercialize their R&D work as entrepreneurs.
