Karachi: It seems that most of banks are interested in the government’s papers, investment in stocks and properties while reluctant to provide customers in the needful hours particularly on the occasion of Eids.
Scores of ATMs of different private and multinational banks have been reported running out of cash or hit technical problems despite the banking regulator clear instructions to keep electronic payment system update on special occasions.
Customers in need of cash having accounts in different banks have been left in the lurch as they don’t have any choice to withdraw cash during the Eid holidays or search ATMs running smoothly with cash.
ATMs located in densely populated areas, posh localities and near shopping centers were reportedly running out of cash.
I found six ATM’s with technical faults or without cash before two days of the Eid but successful to withdraw money from seventh ATM after time-consuming search, a customer, Ahmed Saeed said.
Neither banking regulator nor ombudsman take any action to monitor the situation of ATMs as it irked many of the customers who fail to get cash as required.
Muzzaffar Hussain, similarly, also suffered inconvenience when he needed cash for Eid’s expenses. When he reached a nearest ATM, which is not really near from him, he saw a notice “ATM is out of order. Sorry for Inconvenience.”
At the end of the day, he used cheque after standing in the long queue of the nearest bank because he has to offer the obligation of sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha.
There are many people got salaries in the account of the closing month recently but they will have to face problems in the coming days because as banks do not depute any staff in the holidays for uploading cash and fixing technical problems of ATMs.
The banks attract customers throughout the years for selling their services and spend million of rupees on advertisement but they, whether national or multinational, disappoint their customers in the time of urgency.
