New York: A rare fungal meningitis, linked to contaminated steroid injections, has killed 11 people and sickened 119 others in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to a previous report, there were eight deaths and 105 illnesses.
As many as 13,000 people received the injections May 21 and September 24 and are at risk of infection, the CDC said, although the number ultimately stricken is likely to be far fewer.
“Infected patients have (come forward) approximately one to four weeks following their injection with a variety of symptoms including fever, new or worsening headache, nausea and other new symptoms consistent with a stroke,” the CDC’s Dr Benjamin Park has said, according to Reuters.
