Pallekele: Defending champions England beat New Zealand in their ICC World Twenty20 Super Eights round match played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
England chased the target of 149 runs in 18.5 overs with six remaining. Luke Wright smashed 76 runs off 43 balls with five sixes and five fours.
Kyle Mills, Daniel Vettori, Nathan McCullum and Doug Bracewell all took one wicket each for New Zealand.
Batting first, New Zealand scored 148 runs, thanks to James Franklin’s undefeated 50 runs off 48 balls.
The Kiwis top order did not do well with the opening three batsmen could only add 26 runs to the total.
Steven Finn took three wickets for the English team, and Danny Briggs and Graeme Swann took one wicket apiece.
