Karachi: The Pakistan team advanced to the Super-Eight stage of the ongoing World Twenty20 Cup, however in the group matches the main fast-bowlers went for plenty of runs. On team’s overall performance, former Test fast bowler Aaqib Javed believes that Muhammad Hafeez should bring in a few bowling changes to extract more of the quality attack which Pakistan possess. “I think Hafeez should bowl with a new ball and ‘Gulli’ (Umer Gull) who, in the past, has been successful in the middle overs, should be brought in as first change”, said Aaqib Javed while talking to this correspondent.
“The wicket in Colombo will assist the spinners more that Pallekele, however Pakistan should opt for two pace-men in Gull and Sohail Tanvir. If they want an extra bowler in the side then Raza Hassan should be included instead of a seamer”, added Aqib Javed who is based in Dubai with the UAE national cricket team as Head Coach.
Aqib Javed, 40, had served as the head coach at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, before been appointed as the assistant coach as well as bowling coach of the Pakistan national team.
On a question about Pakistan’s batting, the former fast bowler said that Pakistan’s batsmen have to put their act together to excel against the quality oppositions in the Super-Eight stage. “It goes without saying that Pakistan’s group is tough. I am not much concerned about the bowling but yes, batting is my worry”, concludes Aqib Javed.
Aqib Javed, who has played 22 Tests and 163 ODIs for Pakistan between 1988 and 1998, has recently signed a 3-year contract with United Arab Emirates as the head coach of their Cricket team.
