Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Sheikh has directed the authorities to wipeout all the recently imported Australian sheep, infected the lumpy jaw disease in sheep.
Sheikh while talking to media said that they had taken the decision after test reports which proved that the sheep were infected with contagious bacteria. He said that the sheep would be injected to death and scientifically dumped into the ground.
He said that the whole operation would be completed under the supervision of Sindh government and Livestock department. “The heavy machinery has been sent the place to dig the earth to dump the sheep,” he added.
Sent by an Australian company called Wellard Exports, the ship carrying 21,000 sheep arrived in Pakistan in the first week of September after Bahrain refused to accept the consignment because the animals allegedly had the scabby mouth disease.
The commissioner said that the dumping operation would take up to three days as such quantity of sheep could not be dumped in a day.
