Karachi: Pakistan’s last athlete Rabia Ashiq in London 2012 Olympics will be in action at 800m heats today.
After the disappointing performance of sprinter Liaquat Ali in 100m heats, now all the eyes of Pakistan is on Rabia Ashiq who is getting flare of publicity through telecom ads in Pakistan.
She wants to break the national record in Olympic, which was made by her coach Bushra Pervin covering 800m heats in 2 minutes and 8.04 seconds. Rabia’s best performance is 2 minutes and 10.65 seconds which was recorded in May at Asian Grand Prix.
Coach of Rabia taking to Daily Express said that she was pretty confident in breaking the national record.
“Rabia is getting encouraged by watching closely world class athletes participating in 800m heats” she further said.
“She has to control her nerves; we thought that Liaquat Ali would perform better but he disappointed us by taking slow start” Coach added.
Coach also said that Rabia got more time to get use of London weather condition then Liaquat Ali.
“My training in London is great; I am fully confident to break the national record at Olympics” Rabia said.
