London: British women’s hockey team beat South Korea 5-3 in their preliminary Group A match at 2012 London Olympics.
Nicola White scored in the sixth minute for Great Britain, but Korea’s Darae Kim scored the equaliser 12 minutes later.
Britain’s Crista Cullen helped her side to lead in the first half, scoring in the 25th minute.
Alex Danson scored in the 38th minute to give 3-1 lead to the hosts. But Korea fought back and scored twice in the 52nd and the 57th minutes to equalise the score.
But with ten minutes to go, British Georgie Twigg reversed the ball into goal, followed minutes later by a goal from Chloe Rogers.
The team played under the captaincy of Helen Richardson as their captain Kate Walsh was out owing to a jaw surgery.
Chloe Rogers said the team had played for their captain.
“She’s a fantastic player, she’s our captain, she’s our leader,” The Telegraph quoted goal scorer Chloe Rogers as saying. “But we’ve got other great players around her who can step up to the mark and deal with it.
“You’re always going to miss a great player but we dealt with it and we did that for her today.”
