Islamabad: Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, the chief justice of Pakistan, on Monday administered the oath to new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan Fakhruddin G Ibrahim.
While talking to media after taking the oath, Ibrahim said that it was his final mission and wish to ensure free and fair election in the country. He added that free and fair elections were necessary for the country.
Ibrahim said that the Election Commission of Pakistan was ready to hold election.
The government of Pakistan issued a notification to appoint Fakhruddin G Ibrahim as CEC of the country for five years on July 16.
President Asif Ali Zardari gave formal approval for his appointment on Friday (July 13) following the advice of the Prime Minister after the parliamentary committee unanimously appointed Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim as the CEC to ensure free‚ fair and transparent elections.
Ibrahim is the 23rd CEC of the country.
