London: With a striking payment of $ 310 million, Korean Electronics Giant Samsung Electronics is all set to buy wireless technology business of a UK fabless semiconductor company specializes in single-chip Bluetooth solutions, TheNextWeb reports.
The deal seems to be a strategy to cope with Apple which has filed legal suits in various countries against Samsung alleging to use its patents.
The deal would strengthen Samsung capacity against Apple in smartphone and tablet making war between the two giants.
Smartphone and tablet maker Samsung is paying the amount in cash as a bid to make a greater impact in its patent portfolio.
After the deal, CSR, a publicly-listed UK firm, sold its handset connectivity and location development operations as well as all related technologies, and will transfer 310 people to the South Korean electronics giant.
Besides getting 21 patents, Samsung will enjoy a “world-wide, perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive license” of CSR’s IP rights used in those handset connectivity and location products.
Samsung has also invested an additional $34.4 million in CSR by taking a 4.9 percent stake in the chipmaker.
