Upper Dir: At least seven militants were killed and many others wounded after Afghan militants attacked Pakistan army in Upper Dir, a district of Pakistan’s province Khyber Pakhtunkhua.
Sources inside security forces said that the militants once again tried to enter the Pakistan territory through Upper Dir but the attack was repulsed by the army.
Afghan militants on Sunday attacked a military convoy in Upper Dir, Pakistan’s area bordering Afghanistan, resulting in the killing of at least 21 people including militants and soldiers.
The sources said that after the recent attacks on military-posts, the security has been tightened at the border and it was due to the strict measures which helped army to repulse the attack.
String of attacks from Afghanistan inside Pakistani territory has raised concerns for the authorities.
Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani demanded Isaf Commander Gen John Allen to curb the cross border attacks from Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the foreign ministry also summoned the deputy head of the Afghan mission to lodge a formal protest against “the intrusion of militants from the Afghan side into Pakistani territory,” officials said.
The Afghan diplomat was informed that “the government of Afghanistan should take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future,” it said.
Pakistani troops have for years been fighting local Taliban but have resisted US pressure to carry out a sweeping offensive against Afghan Taliban fighters in its North Waziristan tribal area.
