London: Parents are furious to learn that school girls were forced by their teachers to pull up their tops and prove that they did not have a mobile phone hidden inside their underwear.
The school management has defended its actions by saying that they were simply ensuring that no child carried a mobile phone to school as the scanner revealed that some were hiding it in strategic places and smuggling them inside the premises, Daily Mail reported.
Teachers use wand scanners to ensure that the no mobile phone rule is adhered to strictly. However, when the scanner tripped while being used over a group of middle school students, they were taken aside in a separate room and asked to life their tops.
The girls went back home furious and embarrassed and narrated their ordeal to the parents.
While the school authorities are not sure what triggered the scanner to go off, the school principal did apologise in writing over the incident. However, the letter did mention that while the ‘screening’Â was done, the teachers ensured that no male staff was around and it was done in privacy.
