Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday suspended National Assembly membership of Farah Naz Isfahani, wife of former ambassador to US Hussai Haqqani, for having dual nationality.
The decision came as a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry resumed hearing into a petition against the dual nationality of parliamentarians.
Justice Jawwad S. Khuwaha remarked that Farha Naz Isfahani had taken oath that she would hold a gun if need arose for the defence of the United States.
The SC bench said Isfahani confided that she was an American citizen. The bench remarked that it would be in the greatest interest of people if membership of those parliamentarians be suspended, who had dual nationality.
