Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan wants to benefit from the experience of brotherly Turkey .
Addressing the joint session of the parliament after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s speech here on Monday, Gilani said that the Turkish Prime Minister’s second address to the Pakistani Parliament is a welcome move.
Turkish Prime Minister marks another milestone in long lasting and glorious journey of brotherly relations between two countries.
“Our unique relations began before Pakistan emerged on the world map,” he recalled.
“We are determined to steer our partnership to even greater heights in coming years. Our bilateral trade stood at US$1 billion last year. Our endeavor is to enhance it to $2 billion by end of this year. Currency swap agreement is a major step towards that direction,” he noted.
Recognizing development strides of Turkey‚ Gilani said that it has emerged as a modern society while retaining its distinct features and heritage. Turkey is a role model for Islamic states in terms of recent constitutional reforms it made for strengthening democracy.
“We will also follow footsteps of Turkey to strengthen democracy. The goodwill and bipartisan consensus between both countries provides a unique platform to further solidify strong brotherly ties.
The signing of joint political declaration and establishment of high level cooperation council has given new impetus to cooperation.” He thanked.
